BIO

Army Officer in the Army Catering Corps, served 20 years, retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. While in the army are responsible for the design and development of the first stand alone catering control system. Implemented in  over 400 army units.

Academic: Bournemouth University 10 years – Head  of the School of Service Industries, included hospitality, catering food, leisure, events and retailing

Blue Mountains Hotel School, Australia – Moved into private higher education as Principal/CEO,  initiated a number of projects, including franchise opportunities in China, as well as having a campus in Canberra and partnership venture in New Zealand.

On return to the UK, took an interim management role as the Head of the London School of Hospitality and Tourism at University of West London.

Appointed as the Project Director for The Edge Foundation for the creation, development and opening of the U.K.'s first hotel school. The Edge Hotel School/Wivenhoe House Hotel  at the University of Essex.

Current Roles include: Dean/Academic Director for eHotelier, adviser to the board of the International Association of Hotelschools (EUHOFA), chair of the Professional Review Panel for the Institute Of Hospitality, Chair of the Crumbs Project, Trustee for the Savoy Educational Trust. Wentworth Jones is now a small, consultancy company, and has been involved in a number of  international projects education and hospitality, including developing curriculum for a new hotel school  in Bangladesh, acting as an advisor to Kathmandu University in the development of the Bachelor of Professional Hospitality degree program, chairing a business studies, review panel for the government of Lithuania.

eHotelier Future Skills Report - very comprehensive international study due publication next week that surveyed  over 800 international hospitality professionals to try and better understand their future skills needs, and also to understand the impact and  implications of the pandemic on their business model and their operational structures.

The key outcomes, here is the staff shortage, which is international, the second is the concern of the industry that education and training is not meeting its needs in terms of professional training needs and is not moving quickly enough to keep pace with the changes in the industry. Thirdly that new entrants to the industry are looking for a better work, life balance, and more flexible employment opportunities. Fourth of May that the pandemic has had a significant impact on the industry in terms of business and operational models, and that, despite the recent upsurge, there is concern that consumer sentiment as fragile.
