A Queensland government rebate scheme offering up to $500 for e-bikes and e-scooters resulted in approximately $374,000 being spent on illegal devices. Hundreds of Queenslanders used the rebates to purchase e-bikes and scooters that exceeded the legal maximum speed limit of 25 kilometres per hour. The scheme was designed to encourage active transport among locals.
