Five members of the Iranian women's football team have been granted humanitarian visas to remain in Australia after seeking asylum. Foreign Affairs Minister Tony Burke confirmed the applications were processed and approved in the early hours of the morning, with the athletes moved to a safe location by the Australian Federal Police. The women, who described themselves as athletes seeking safety rather than political activists, expressed gratitude and celebrated their new status with spontaneous cheers.
