Australia has banned the radical Islamic organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir under new hate group laws. Members face up to 15 years imprisonment for continued involvement, with criminal offences now applying to membership, training provision, or funding of the organisation. Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke states the ban sends a strong message to radical groups.
