The Hebrew word for sin means "to miss the mark." The image is of an archer shooting at a target and missing. In Nehemiah 9, the Israelites are JUST NOW realizing that they have missed the mark of God's expectations of them. In this passage, we see how genuine worship recalibrated them. In Nehemiah 8, they were confronted with their sin. In Nehemiah 9, they obediently respond.
