Alison and Timothy discuss the lives of two reclusive women and their dolls. Hugette Clark, born into an incredibly wealthy family, collected dolls and dollhouses, and left some of her own homes empty as if they were life-sized doll houses. She spent the last decades of her life in a hospital room, by her own choice. Dare Wright was a model and photographer who photographed her “lonely doll” and turned the scenes into children’s books. Joshua shares a story from his youth about a frightening day along the local creek with his brother and a friend. After coming upon a display of deer skulls, mounted on sticks in the middle of the creek, the boys decided to vacate the area. It seems something followed them - as they got closer to home and had to cross through a long, dark tunnel, a large and hair-covered creature dropped into the creek behind them and chased them through the tunnel. “Don’t take candy from strangers”…We tell the story of Lost Charlie Ross, a child abducted from Germantown, Pennsylvania in 1874. Charlie’s abductors sent multiple ransom notes, but were killed during a separate attempted robbery without ever revealing where Charlie was located. Over the ensuing years, several people claimed to be Charlie Ross, but none of their claims proved true. In a very Strange Familiars twist, while researching the story, Alison found that one boy who was thought, for a time, to be the lost Charlie Ross, lived in our home town! Berger was killed and his murderer was never found, while Laub may have started the forest fires that burnt down Berger’s home.
