Mom opened the door. It felt as though everything happened in slow motion. The cup in her hand slipped through her fingers. She slammed the door and pushed against it as she struggled to lock it. I stood there, in the middle of the living room, frozen.

"Did you like the movie?" my dad asked as he unlocked the car.
"Like? I loved it! Did you see how Amanda's mom jump kicked that thief and her father held him in a wrestling hold? I wish our lives were that exciting!"
My mom and dad looked at each other and then chuckled.
The next day I walked into the living room while mom was on a call.
"I told you I'm not interested," my mom said as she spoke to the person on the other end of the phone before hanging up.
"Who was that?"
"Oh, just some random salesperson trying to sell me something I no longer want."
