His hazel brown eyes locked with mine and he flashed a smile. My heart fluttered as he nodded in at me when he passed. For the first time in my life, I was speechless. My friends giggled next to me and nudged me lightly, teasing me, and they whispered, “Malik and Jamie sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g.”
So back to my story. Malik Johnson came to Charleston about two weeks ago, with his mom and dad. The way he strolled through the hallway with confidence, you wouldn't believe that he was the new kid on the block. We had one class together, Maths and that was my worst class ever. Every time the teacher called me to answer a question I would just sit there with a blank expression on my face. Malik probably thought that I was such an airhead. My friend Sophia would tease me and say, “Well, we know who the bright one in the family would be.”
