John worked for WLKY in the 1980's and then for WAVE-TV in the 1990's until 2010.  Over the years he received various awards. Among these were a Regional Emmy for severe weather coverage and a Special Service Award from the National Weather Service. He was recipient of the national Mark Trail Award from the National Weather Service for public education about weather radios.  He was voted Best Meteorologist of Louisville and the Best of Kentucky numerous times by different publications.  On the science end of the weather, John was the first meteorologist in the country to present a daily 14 day forecast. He was even invited to the White House to meet with President Clinton and Vice-President Gore for a discussion on global warming.  On the fun end of the weather, John wrote a book titled, Backyard Weather Folklore.
