Show Notes

Hello to you listening in Mandaluyong City, Philippines!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more ) for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga.

The other day something pretty rotten happened to me. I felt taken advantage of. How dare she? Who does she think she is? After all I’ve done! My anger and resentment continued long past their shelf life. What happened next? I remembered something.

Perhaps you’re familiar with the story of two Buddhist monks, one older and one younger, walking a dirt road back to their temple. Arriving at a wide river they see a woman standing on the bank unsure of how to cross. She asks for help. Without a word the older monk lifts her in his arms, carries her across the river, sets her gently on the other side and nods farewell.

The younger monk is shocked! An hour of walking, then two, then three, and finally the younger monk explodes in rage: “We took a vow as monks not to touch women! You carried her! You broke the sacred vow!”

As the story goes the older monk says, “Yes, I picked her up, I put her down, and you are still carrying her.”

Story Prompt: What are you carrying around that’s ready to be put down? How would it feel to let it go? Write that story!

Practical Tip: The magic of stories is also in the sharing. If you wish share your story with someone or something.   All that matters is you have a story.

You’re invited: “Come for the stories - stay for the magic!” Speaking of magic, I hope you’ll subscribe, share a nice shout out on your social media or podcast channel of choice, and join us next time!
