Show Notes
In Episode 12 of Storied, host Benji Rosenzweig sits down with GRAMMY-winning singer-songwriter Joanie Leeds for a heartfelt conversation about The Beatles, Jewish identity, women who shaped music history, and the stories we pass from generation to generation.
Joanie - known for her award-winning catalog of family music, including her newest album Ageless: 100 Years Young, inspired by her Bubbie’s 100th birthday—opens up about growing up with The Beatles, how their songwriting shaped her own, and why their music resonates with kids and adults alike. From “Twist and Shout” at birthday parties to her clever homage “Hello, Goodbye, Shalom,” Joanie shares the ways the Fab Four continue to influence her creative world.
Benji and Joanie also explore the often overlooked Jewish stories within The Beatles universe—including songwriter Bert Berns of “Twist and Shout” and cultural icon Marlene Dietrich, whose courage helped save Jewish lives during WWII. They also discuss Jane Asher, Linda McCartney, and Barbara Bach, and how their talent, love, and legacy shaped the band’s evolution.
