Episode 101: Market Updates February 2023: Equity and Commodity Market + Inflation & Monetary Policy Expectations

In this month's episode of Market Updates, Global One Media's Business Analyst Moneer Barazi keeps us updated on the developments in the equity markets in 2023, inflation expectations and monetary policy, and the latest news on commodity markets.

Moneer showed how commodity markets are recovering from their decline in 2022 and how the cycle might be shifting as we approach the peak of monetary tightening. He also mentioned seeing increased efficiency in the technology sector as companies join the conversation on the Artificial Intelligence (AI) race. 

Commodity prices are expected to be elevated, driven by the return of Chinese producers to global markets. The commodity sector has also been among the best-performing assets in recent years and is predicted to perform the same in the short and medium term. This can be slowed by the dollar strengthening significantly, which according to Moneer has limited possibility given that the market is currently pricing in less hawkish monetary policy.
