S1 Ep 96Philip Weiss - Apprise Wealth | The Berkshire Report

Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway holds its shareholders' meeting in Omaha each year. It's known as the Woodstock for value investors. A recent guest on this podcast, Phil Weiss of Apprise Wealth, mentioned that he was attending and I asked if he would return and report to listeners. The Berkshire Annual Meeting is unique as most companies only talk to "The Street" or analysts, but Warren & Charlie and other principals take questions from ordinary shareholders. Berkshire releases earnings on Saturday morning typically when the market's not open. The results can be digested and no-one gets any information earlier. It's a special occasion in terms of communicating with the company, hearing about the company's performance, and answering questions which are not just about the company but about life in general. We mentioned a link to a blog post from Phil: https://apprisewealth.com/news/apprises-five-favorite-reads-for-the-week-of-may-1-2022/Portfolio tracker Sharesight tracks your trades, shows your true performance, and saves you time and money at tax time. S1 Ep 91Roger Khoury Market Forecasting Academy

My guest today has seen grown, mature, successful individuals open their first brokerage account and turn into 16 year olds who just got their driver's licence, their parents got them a brand new Lamborghini, and there's a bottle of whiskey in the passenger seat. The Stock Market will do that to some people. Roger is the Founder and CEO of Market Forecasting Academy, a training and mentorship program for market participants looking for low risk, consistent, market-beating performance. Throughout the years, he's noticed that traders/investors often place too much emphasis on the technology aspect when, in fact, all it does is facilitate the gathering and calculating of necessary data which saves a person time. Here's the link Roger mentioned: https://www.marketforecastingacademy.com/request-training/Here's a link to the episode blog post and transcript: https://www.stocksforbeginners.net/blog/khouryPortfolio tracker Sharesight tracks your trades, shows your true performance, and saves you time and money at tax time. What happens when a mathematician shares a room with an economist at college? The mathematician doesn't come from an investment background but he'd like to make some money and the economist has a dream to launch a hedge fund. S1 Ep 88Philip Weiss - Apprise Wealth | Financial Role Models

Successful financial management is not only about picking the right investments, it can also be about overcoming poor role models in your life. Phil Weiss and I sat down to discuss how he took action to avoid following in his father's financial footsteps. He shared great tips on getting rid of credit card debt, how his accounting training helps to identify the numbers that matter in company financials, the stocks that he's held onto for over 25 years, how value investing has changed, and his client who bought $300 worth of Apple stock soon after listing which has now grown to 2,100 shares. Not a bad return for doing nothing for 40 years. Phil also spoke about the Triple-Tax-Free Retirement Benefits of a Health Savings Account. S1 Ep 86Jaden Sterling | Sterling Stock Picker

Jaden Sterling started his finance career on Wall Street but became disillusioned with the money-making machine that didn't look after investors. S1 Ep 81WEEKEND WATCHLIST - Connected TV

Special guest analyst from 7investing this week is Luke Hallard. Television viewers are transitioning from traditional linear TV to Connected TV. Older generations are cord-cutting due to cost and convenience, and those born since the 1990s have grown up watching YouTube and Netflix, with Connected TV all they ever need. Increasingly, Connected TV is taking a larger proportion of total global television advertising spend, however, this transition is playing out at a slower rate than many expected, and revenues for the companies enabling Connected TV have lagged the shift in viewing habits. https://7investing.com/advisor/luke-hallard/Disclosure: The links provided are affiliate links. I'm pleased to present this episode with Steve Symington from 7investing. There's lots of great stuff for beginners to learn in valuing a business. We're talking about Markel Corporation NYSE:MKL. Steve describes it as a “mini-Berkshire” company. It follows a three-tiered approach to consistently building shareholder value over long periods of time. There's the insurance tier, what they call their “growth engine,” both through specialty insurance and reinsurance. The second tier is its investment portfolio, Tom Gayner, who’s their co-CEO, serves as their chief investment officer. They invest in both fixed income avenues and equity securities. The third is Markel Ventures. This is a group of mostly non-insurance, non-investing businesses that they’ve acquired and that operate under Markel Ventures as fully owned subsidiaries. Here's a 7investing deep dive with Steve Symington and Simon Erickson: https://7investing.com/articles/markel-deep-dive-august-2020/Disclosure: The links provided are affiliate links. Todd explained VectorVest’s commitment to a systematic approach to investing that is based on their 3 pillars of Value/ Safety and Timing, which in Todd’s words; ‘starts putting the probabilities on our side of being successful’. He recommends organically expanding your risk as you improve over time and his 0.5% risk strategy. Todd views investing as an empirical intellectual exercise that requires study. VectorVest offers guidance to help investors plan their strategy.Portfolio tracker Sharesight tracks your trades, shows your true performance, and saves you time and money at tax time. S1 Ep 51Robert Farrington – The College Investor

Robert Farrington is the founder of The College Investor the #1 tool to help get people out of student loan debt, learn how to earn more money, understand how to start investing and build real wealth."What's gonna make a big difference in your life is consistently investing over time and putting as much money as you possibly can into your investments. And then, if you can just get the market rate of return 10% a year, you are going to be solid by the time you're getting close to retirement, and, if you start this whole process when you're 20 years old 22 years old, you're going to be solid by the time you're 35. That's really the name of the game. It's not about what you invest in, it's not about picking stocks, it is about how much you can possibly get into your investment accounts as early as you physically can."Thanks for the wonderful conversation, Robert. S1 Ep 49Myles Gage – Rapunzl Investments

Myles Gage began his career as a credit analyst at CIBC. He and his co-founder, Brian Curcio, realized that ordinary investors have paid a price to learn to invest — and that price typically was real money ending up in Wall Street’s pocket. Rapunzl was founded to provide an unparalleled investing education through fun (and free) investment competitions with scholarship and cash prizes. At Rapunzl, they believe everyone at a young age should understand the basics of stock trading and that the knowhow of stock trading should be accessible not just to those on wall street but also those on main street. Here’s the link to episode blog post: https://www.stocksforbeginners.net/blog/rapunzlPortfolio tracker Sharesight tracks your trades, shows your true performance, and saves you time and money at tax time. S1 Ep 48Keith Smith – Bonhoeffer Capital Management

“When you research a company you're basically putting a puzzle together to say, okay, would these guys be good stewards of my money? Because basically the CEO and the management team has given stewardship over this money, how are they going to spend it?”. Keith Smith launched the Bonhoeffer Fund in 2017. Applying concepts from developed markets that have proven effective, the fund identifies and invests in companies that exhibit those qualities in disrupted industries, misunderstood sectors, and emerging markets. The fund is named for German theologian and martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who represents the power of independent thought. Here’s the link to episode blog post: https://www.stocksforbeginners.net/blog/bonhoeffer Portfolio tracker Sharesight tracks your trades, shows your true performance, and saves you time and money at tax time.
