ISTE: Inspiration Or Skills?

I go to ISTE every three years or so. But in my visits, and talking to several teachers, I've heard many remark that large conferences are more "inspiration" and less actual tactics. I also hear from MANY teachers that the best part of large summer conferences is the opportunity to talk to other teachers. So... why the sit-and-get "motivational" presentations and panels?
