Show Notes

Two weeks ago Jamal & I asked for feedback on our "what class would you invent or throw out" podcast. We got several good suggestions and emails, but one teacher, Matthew from Michigan, asked to be a guest on the show. We are happy he did. Matthew Barbercheck is in his third year of teaching industrial arts and computer-aided design at Republic-Michigamme Schools in Republic, Michigan, where he also teaches Spanish. Republic-Michigamme schools is a k-12 school with about 120 students. Barbercheck works with all grade levels from 6th-12th grade, often times in "one-room school house" scenarios of working with students across a wide range of grades and skill level at the same time. Barbercheck has already made a tremendous impact on the lives of his students at his small school in encouraging his students to learn from failures, and drawing upon collaborative methods of teaching. Barbercheck is a co-host of the Shop Class Podcast found most anywhere you listen to podcasts.
