Something I see many fans question, is why the Jedi never just freed all the slaves on Tatooine and other parts of the galaxy? There are two answers to this. The main one being, the slaves had bombs in them that would detonate should they leave the planet.

Something I see many fans question, is why the Jedi never just freed all the slaves on Tatooine and other parts of the galaxy? There are two answers to this. The main one being, the slaves had bombs in them that would detonate should they leave the planet.
The second is because Hutt controlled Tatooine was not a place of jurisdiction for the Jedi. Not that they'd lose a fight there, but starting something that big with the Hutts, would surely complicate matters for the Jedi, and it wouldn't look good to the rest of the galaxy. They were better off focusing on The Clone Wars and fighting for peace that way.
Padme did try to free Anakin's mom, Shmi Skywalker, but failed.
