I think it's safe to say - as in, there's little argument over this point - that as far as parents in Star Wars stories go, the stories are much more focused on fathers than mothers. But mothers are certainly represented in Star Wars, and since today is Mother's Day, I thought it'd be fun to take a look at the types of mothers we meet in Star Wars.
Some of them we'll flag for the type (i.e., immaculate, surrogate, adoptive); others for the relationship with their child or children (i.e., influential, disowning, idealized); and still others for their actions (i.e., abandoning, sacrificing, unconditionally loving). All too often, mothers serves as plot devices for the story arcs of their children in Star Wars, but there are exceptions to that rule. Punch it!
