Today, Mary takes on a topic that may be hard to hear, but is necessary, and few in the church are speaking out about it. The passage is 2 Timothy 3:1-5. When the Bible talks about perilous times, we tend to think about those headlines that appear suddenly and stand the world on its head – birth pangs, wars and rumours, Israel. And yet these verses point to a peril no one wants to talk about: the human heart. And not of unbelievers, but in the church. How in the world did we get here, loving self more than God? And yet, churches are battling this ill more and more to the point where believers are staying away. Yes, lack of sound doctrine plays a part – sometimes. But when narcissism begins to work its evil throughout a church, flowing primarily from controlling and unaccountable leadership, who is watching out for the sheep? What is a “form of godliness”? Why does Paul say to avoid such? What are the qualifications for pulpit ministry? Christians tend to be gracious and put up with a lot of mischief from leadership, as long as the doctrine is sound. But what does God think about those who mistreat His people? Let’s let the Word do the talking on this one, but talk about it we must. Mary welcomes back David Bowen to discuss the existential aspect of AI. Those who study the end times from the perspective of the human heart and the angst that biblical events will create probably already understood where this was going. Humans tend to gravitate toward something or someone to worship that preferably doesn’t include accountability to a just and holy creator God. They would rather have a spurious, arbitrary God than one that holds them accountable for their sin and the rejection of the One that represents our deepest need. One that has a beginning and an end so they can philosophize about how brilliant they themselves are. Worship of self, intellect, and general idolatry are the general categories of the Church of AI. Yet the Ai-theist knows full well that this is an impersonal, cold god of their own making. Interestingly enough, they have a catechism, creeds and practices. Since they borrow so heavily from Christianity it is difficult to take them seriously but that’s clearly not any of their concern. Also, we look at the Minnesota murders of State Representative Melissa Hortman, a Democrat and her husband, and injuring State Senator John A. Hoffman, also a Democrat, and his wife. Melissa Hortman was the highest-ranking Democrat in the Minnesota House. Why is this so bizarre, and will we ever be able to connect all the dots? We predict it will be looked at no further. Mary welcomes back author, speaker and blogger Jonathan Brentner whose latest book, “A Lavish Feast”, brings together Proverbs and prophecy, and the hope we have of the soon return of Christ for His church. Watching prophecy unfold is fascinating these days. Sometimes a foot is on the accelerator, and other times, we seem to be on “pause” as events play out. Meanwhile, it behooves the church to never stop studying the Bible – and not just prophecy passages, but God’s nature as well, and the over-arching view from 10,000 feet. How does God’s plan of the ages speak to us from outside of time, space, and matter? We seek wisdom about so many passages in Scripture, but do we seek wisdom about prophecy? God is a giver of wisdom, and liberally. He already has told us via Abraham in Genesis 18 that He does not judge the righteous with the wicked. So instead of pet doctrines and dangerous teachings such as Replacement Theology and Dominion Theology, why not ask God what HE thinks, and proceed according to His revealed Word? Where is the fear of the Lord in this area, and does anyone tremble at His Word (Isaiah 66)? A very insightful look at where wisdom and prophecy intersect in the heart of the Lord. He is a Jewish believer in Jesus from France, the son of Holocaust survivors, whose maternal grandfather was killed by the Nazis. Olivier is an internationally known speaker on antisemitism. He holds a BA from Moody Bible Institute and a masters from Dallas Theological Seminary, and has been equipping believers to understand and fight antisemitism since 2000. The ramping up of antisemitism is a complete surprise to some, it’s not that long ago that they were the target of genocide during WW2, and if anyone alive has a parent who fought in that war, the connection is still strong. So why now? How are things different? Today we talk about the stages of normalization from his book, “The Normalization of Antisemitism”. World leaders are not so subtly being drawn into this hate as the world turns their back on Israel. Words matter. Words turn to violence. Even our neighbor to the north is being drawn in. [Originally Aired: 6/13/24] Mary chats with Pastor and author Mike Abendroth who has written a 31 day devotional on how to allow God to shepherd us when we find ourselves suffering from chronic illness. The title alone is very freeing, and when we search the Scriptures, how much more is this true and verified over and over as we seek to get to know our Good Shepherd better. Everyone is shepherded, led – and follows – something in this life, we are all serving something, someone. But for the believer, the true Shepherd cannot be supplanted by something as temporal as illness; beyond that, He cherishes and cares deeply for each of us each day, in sickness and in health. As he says in this devotional, “Cancer is not your shepherd. Cancer is not in charge. Cancer is not all powerful. Cancer does not have the last word. Cancer is not a surprise to the Lord. As we bid farewell to the first half of 2025 and welcome the carefree days of Summer, Mary takes a look at stars, time, and how crucial it is to understand the witness of the heavens. Even on a foundational level, the heavens are a message system that show forth God’s glory. Many of us might look up night after night and enjoy the beauty on these warm evenings, but do we really understand that it is glory we are beholding? How does that provide the foundation for our faith, and where does the concept of time enter in? Eternity past, the present, the future, eternity future – are these just something to dwell in after we make our entrance into this life, or are they so much more? Even the very spot we put our feet every day outdoors is on something that was made out of nothing. Oh, and “He made the stars also.” If we really want to peel back the complexities of this stifling world system, and get down to basics, the primer that is the heavens is that great leveler – that thing that helps us begin to keep the main thing the main thing, and look forward to dwelling forever with the One Who made it all – and has put eternity in our hearts. Considering the seemingly stunted growth of so many church-goers, we might be able to deduct that in addition to a lack of Bible knowledge, there is little to no discipling going on, and where there is, depth is lacking. What are some of the ways the church can rectify this? How can we be more engaged with one another instead of disengaged? How does it translate into making disciples of all nations? Converts, yes.
