The St. Louis Cardinals have made another round of Spring Training roster cuts, optioning outfielder Joshua Baez and pitcher Quinn Mathews to the minors. This trims their camp roster to forty-six active players. Baez, who had a strong showing with a hot bat during camp, hit three home runs and five RBIs in ten games, but his demotion clears the way for utility infielder Thomas Saggese, who has been batting well in the outfield. Saggeses chances of securing the left field spot on Opening Day have improved, although camp still has a few weeks left to determine the final roster.
