Farmlands to Asian Games Gold: Aslam Inamdar’s Kabaddi Journey

India’s kabaddi star Aslam Inamdar has a touching story. He hails from a poor background and lost his father at a young age. His mother had to work as a domestic help to run the house. The situation compelled Aslam to pick up odd jobs at hotels and farmlands to help his family. However, he never gave his Kabaddi practice a miss. His life changed for the better after he moved to Thane-Mumbai to play in professional kabaddi leagues. His stock rose rapidly after a phenomenal show in the Junior National Meet and every Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) team wanted to sign him. However, he sat out the entire season of PKL because his ‘Guru’ asked him to. But when he returned to the mat with Puneri Paltan, he won everyone’s hearts. अस्लम इनामदार हलाखीच्या परिस्थितीत वाढला. वडील तो लहान असताना वारले, आई चार घरची धुणी-भांडी करून घर चालवायची. त्यामुळे घरी पैसे मागायला लागू नयेत म्हणून त्यानेदेखील लोकांच्या शेतात, हॉटेलमध्ये, पडेल ते काम करत कबड्डी जोपासली. ठाणे-मुंबईत व्यावसायिक कबड्डी खेळायला सुरुवात केल्यावर अस्लमच्या आयुष्याला कलाटणी मिळायला सुरुवात झाली. स्वावलंबन, अपार कष्ट करायची तयारी आणि जिद्दीच्या जोरावर त्याने व्यासायिक कबड्डीत नाव तर कमावलंच, पण 'ज्युनियर नॅशनलमध्ये' चमकदार कामगिरी करत संबंध भारतीय कबड्डी विश्वाचं लक्ष स्वतः कडे वळवलं. केवळ गुरुच्या एका शब्दावर अस्लम 'प्रो कबड्डी लीगचा' एक हंगाम बाहेर पण बसला आणि जेव्हा पुणेरी पलटणकडून मैदानात उतरला तेव्हा मैदान मारलं. आज तो आशियाई खेळात भारताकडून सुवर्णपदक विजेता खेळाडू आहे. त्याचा हा कबड्डीचा प्रवास अस्लम इनामदारने उलगडा आहे कट्ट्यावरच्या गप्पांमध्ये अमोल गोखले सोबत...
