Idaho Wildlife Officials Take Action: Three Wolves Killed to Boost Elk Population

In a first for the Panhandle region, Idaho officials killed three wolves to address a decline in elk numbers. The pack, located north of I-90, was blamed for much of the issue in North Idahos Unit four area. Officials cite wolf predation and other predators like bears and lions as factors in the elk decline. Despite efforts to manage the issue, a court ruling shortened wolf trapping seasons, leading to this direct action. Idaho aims to maintain a population of around five hundred wolves, but recent counts show over one thousand two hundred.
