Idaho Fish and Game successfully completed the first year of a project to relocate fishers to the Coeur d’Alene Mountains. Eleven fishers, including seven males and four females, were moved from stronger populations up north to fill a gap and boost the species survival. The relocation process was challenging, with trappers checking live traps daily and releasing the fishers near Orofino. GPS collars were attached to track the fishers movements, and most are now thriving in the Coeur d’Alenes. Next November, more fishers will be relocated to further enhance the population and gene flow for long-term survival.
