Our Mr. Matsura is a captivating documentary about Frank Matsura, a Japanese immigrant who arrived in Washington in 1903. He worked at a local hotel, but his true passion was photography. Matsuras remarkable journey, from Japan to Seattle, Alaska, and finally to Okanogan, is chronicled in this film. He opened a photography studio, documenting daily life with warmth and respect, earning the trust of both white settlers and Native Americans. Around 4,000 of his photos survive, many preserved at the Okanogan County Historical Society. The documentary, screening at the Spokane International Film Festival, offers a glimpse into the regions diverse pioneers through Matsuras lens.
