Captain Ariana Savino, a 31-year-old from Covington, Washington, tragically lost her life on March 12th when her KC-135 refueling plane crashed in western Iraq during a combat support mission. She was one of six Air Force members killed in the incident. Savino served with the 99th Air Refueling Squadron out of Alabama, which falls under the 6th Air Refueling Wing at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida. Major John Klinner from Alabama and Tech Sergeant Ashley Pruitt from Kentucky were also among the victims. The plane was a Boeing model on a routine operation. The crash occurred in friendly airspace after an incident with another aircraft that landed safely. Officials have ruled out hostile or friendly fire, and the full investigation is ongoing. Washington Governor Bob Ferguson ordered state flags lowered to half-staff in honor of Savino, urging others to join in this tribute.
