Send a textLogic is an important study that everyone should have at least a basic knowledge of. This includes fallacies. Fallacy simply means a mistake in reasoning. Fallacies, when we can see them, can help us see when someone is saying something that isn't true. This leads to people properly avoiding these mistakes. However, people can also incorrectly call something a fallacy that isn't. One of the most common examples of this is the fallacy known as ad hominem. Ad hominem usually refers to "name calling," or making a statement about the person arguing instead of the argument. However, we see all over the Bible making direct and often offensive claims about people, and sometimes even calling them names. However, they do this while also attacking the argument they're up against. This should tell us that name calling isn't always a fallacy, and can potentially be used appropriately to accentuate a point. Or perhaps you open to a random page and try to pull something out that applies to your life. If any of that is true for you, then you couldn'tbe more wrong. Let's talk about the way that God intends the Bible to be read and understood. In this episode, we discuss the overarching narrative of scripture and how to articulate it, the doctrine of inspiration, and ways that Christians fail at reading the bible. It's important to understand what scripture is so we can value it and consume it the way that God intends. Send a textWhat does the word pastor mean? In this episode we look at the biblical definition of pastor and compare that to our modern Christian understanding and see what doesn't fit. In fact, many pastors aren't pastors at all, and that may end up being a serious problem for your church, but also for the faith and spiritual well being of the individuals in your church.We see Christians filling churches every Sunday who lack fundamental understanding of their faith and who aren't being properly fed and cared for. This is due to many churches' poor leadership, which is ultimately due to our poor understanding of the requirements of church leaders and pastors. We need to start caring for other Christians more and taking initiative in our own faiths as well to make sure we are cared for. Send a textFeelings, emotions, and our own desires and inclinations play a large role in our faiths. Probably a much larger role than we’re aware of. We want to feel God. We want to feel like God is real and that he loves us and that Jesus really lives, died, and came back to life. But what about when we don’t feel those things? In this episode, we discuss western Christians’ tendency to emphasize individualism and it’s impact on our faith. We also talk about our culture’s perception as of a couple of God’s characteristics, imminence and transcendence, and how that relates to the place of feelings in our faith as well. It turns out that our culture generally takes an opposite perspective on the importance of feelings in faith than the Bible. Let’s fix that.
