#19: Greenwashing: What is it? | Gabe Brown

I’ve interviewed many people over the years who are very accomplished. I’m not sure I’ve ever felt as comfortable and connected to Gabe Brown. Gabe is the author of, Dirt to Soil, the top regenerative agriculture book, and is now a consultant and educator on top of still running his North Dakota farm. Understanding Ag is Gabe and a former guest on the podcast Dr. Allen Williams. The newest endeavor is a certification called Regenify. This process and entity will guarantee that products and farms carrying the designation are the real deal. Greenwashing is a term we all need to be aware of, especially if we care about supporting companies being regenerative. “Greenwashing is where a company uses advertising and public messaging to try to appear to be environmentally sustainable and green – greener than it is. It’s also a technique certain companies use to distract consumers from the fact that their business model and activities do a lot of harm and damage.” Will Harris received flak and repercussions from Wholefoods as he described greenwashing on the Joe Rogan podcast. It’s well worth watching. What Gabe and Allan are doing with Regenify is much needed. While I want it everywhere, I selfishly wish for Arkansas to engage and be a leading region for prosperity. We, as a state, can be a leader. #18: The 50% Rule: Diet & Nutrition with Sally Fallon Morell

One of the most confusing and polarizing topics is “diet.” What we are supposed to eat has as many different extreme views as politics and religion. I’ve been on a mission to understand from a viewpoint of simple cause and effect, trying to overcome the prejudice and indoctrination of standard societal norms. My agenda is solely focused on feeding my children the best possible diet to succeed. What will make them healthy, strong and successful? My drive comes from spending so much time in pediatric oncology with my son. From seeing the ravages of chronic disease working in an ambulance. I’m after solutions that help and work, without unquestioned dogma. Sally Fallon Morell, the best-selling author of "Nourishing Traditions," is a key figure in sharing the work of Weston A. Price. Who is one of the most important health experts in history. Dr. Price was more than just a dentist. Starting in the 1930s, he traveled the world, not to fix teeth but to learn about the eating habits of different groups of people. What he found can teach us a lot about how to stay healthy today. Born in Canada in 1870, Price led research at a major dental organization now called the American Dental Association. He was interested in how food, dental health, and health are all connected. Because of this, he wrote "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration." This book shares his journey around the world, exploring what people eat and how it affects their health. Dr. Price went to many places, from the mountains in Switzerland to Eskimo communities in Northern Canada, tribal groups in Africa, native tribes in North America, and more. Even though these groups were very different, they all had one thing in common: vigours health and strong teeth. Dr. Price noticed that a big reason for this was their food, which was full of good stuff like seafood, dairy, meat, veggies, and grains. But Dr. Price also saw something troubling. When these groups started eating more Western-style foods like processed grains, sugar, and canned goods, their health got worse quickly. This is an essential lesson for everyone who cares about our family's health. Dr. Price's research shows how important it is to eat foods that are full of nutrients. This is often forgotten because modern food is so easy and plentiful. Dr. Price's significant research has influenced many people who care about nutrition. It has even led to groups like the Weston A. Price Foundation, which encourages people to eat diets full of nutrients. Sally Fallon Morell started and is the president of the foundation. She wants to help people learn about and take control of their health. Morell has also done a lot of work in this area, including her book "Nourishing Diets." This book goes into great detail about how traditional people lived and what they ate. Morell's research is beneficial for anyone who wants to use old wisdom to stay healthy today. We invite you to listen to our podcast interview with Sally to learn more. In our candid conversation, she shares her wisdom on applying these traditional ways of nurturing health in the modern world. Her insights and practical advice can serve as a valuable guide in your journey toward optimal health. ### Logan Duvall, an operator of Me & McGee Market and founder of Sowing Prosperity, is transforming his community through health and sustainability. #16: A Visit with Will Harris of White Oak Pastures

I’ve been aware of White Oak Pastures for a while. They are a farming outfit out of Bluffton, Georgia. I didn’t pay a lot of attention at first, as we aren’t in a position to work with them directly at Me & McGee Market. But after I recently listened to a Herd Quitter podcast interviewing the owner, Will Harris, I became blown away. As I dug in, the principles that can be applied elsewhere stood out. Being from a small town in Arkansas, I witnessed the impact of the primary industry at the time, The Pickle Plant, leaving and the hardships associated with that. Will Harris has found an early niche that is becoming more and more popular (and for a good reason). Pastured meats are a superior health food by a vast margin. What makes me beyond impressed, is how the group has used a method of farming that improves the environment in a way to build the local economy. Recorded on location… This episode, we'll be diving into the impact of regenerative agriculture on the local economy, learning about the revitalization of Bluffton, and delving into what true wealth means to Will.

#15: Turning a Farmstead into a Farm Stand: Dirk Tanner

In this episode, we meet Dirk Tanner. A farmer in Greenbrier, AR is attempting to open up a Farm Stand. Establishing a Farm Stand is a positive act of rebellion for farmers who want to take the next step in providing fresh and locally-grown produce to their community. By creating a connecting hub, Farm Stands promotes a more resilient food system and contributes to a solution for the fragile, overconnected, globalized food system. Farm Stands and Markets are a hub that brings all the pieces of the Sowing Prosperity Philosophy together. They provide access to high-quality, nutritious foods and promote health while building trust and strengthening relationships between farmers and consumers within the local community. This, in turn, promotes wealth and community resilience. The success of Farm Stands and markets has a positive ripple effect throughout the local community. They serve more people and support more businesses through partnerships, creating a virtuous cycle of growth and prosperity. Entrepreneurs who establish regenerative food systems through Farm Stands are true heroes. With proper execution and management, a Farm Stand can replace a regular income and even exceed it. Scaling then becomes an alignment with your goals. If you want to build a successful business that contributes to the resilience of your community and loved ones, a Farm Stand is a great option. #12: What is Functional Medicine? Dr. Amy Beard

What is Functional Medicine? In this interview, we will visit with Dr. Amy Beard to get lots of answers. #09 What Are Enzymes?: Wade Lightheart

What are enzymes? And what do they do? In this episode we talk to Wade Lightheart, President of BiOptimizers.com on the topic. I was thrust into the world of digestive issues when Lander. With one of his chemotherapies, Vincristine, the extreme common side effect of constipation is due to the slowing down of intestinal contraction or even the paralyzation of a section of intestines. The standard medical approach is a common over the counter powder which retains water to help allow bowels to move through by being more lubricated - osmosis laxative. However, the petroleum based medication is not without side effects, and a quick internet search is pretty eye opening. Early on with our cancer journey, this is exactly what we did but I wanted to understand digestive complications and natural ways to help his system. There were about 5 times with Lander I honestly didn’t know how to cope. One of those times was when he became so compacted he had to get an NG tube with fluids to unstop his bowls. It was truly an awful experience for everyone involved. Having a tube run up your child’s nose down to their stomach while they are begging you to stop was possibly the worst non-coping moment as I just mentioned. Once we were through, I vowed to never go through that again, but it would not be the last for a completely unavoidable situation. On digestion and avoiding problems, I found constipation can occur due to low Magnesium, dehydration, lack of dietary fiber, and dysbiosis (imbalance in the gut microbiome). An absolutely crucial component to the digestive process is digestive enzymes. These tiny proteins act as the catalyst or key to chemical reactions. Basically, they help break down foods we eat into smaller and more usable forms. Enzymes are found in fresh foods but are destroyed by heat/cooking. Our body produces enzymes in saliva, the pancreas, stomach and intestines. There are many different ones but 3 important ones are Amylase breaks down starches and carbohydrates into sugars. Protease breaks down proteins into amino acids. Lipase breaks down lipids, which are fats and oils, into glycerol and fatty acids. The incorporation of supplemental enzymes has made a significant difference in our lives and has since provided relief in more ways than one. #07: Why I Tried the Carnivore Diet: Logan Duvall

When Lander was diagnosed with cancer, I dove into nutrition extensively. One of the first resources I came across was The China Study by Colin Campbell, Ph.D., and his son Thomas Campbell, M.D. They break down their idea of a whole plant-based diet being directly correlated with cancer, based on a massive study performed in China. I initially implemented a no meat directive in the early stages of our plan due to the belief animal based proteins were harmful. But I never stopped trying to learn or question everything. As I observed the practitioners of different eating lifestyles, I always referred back to the mental framework of cause and effect. It became evident that many vegans (who eat only plants) and very strict vegetarians (who have a broader diet) had some downfalls. From the outside perspective, there is fatigue, pale skin, brittle hair and nails. What could be causing this is it's the “healthiest” diet? Anti-nutrients are substances found in certain foods that can interfere with the absorption of essential nutrients. Examples of anti-nutrients include phytic acid, oxalates, and lectins. These substances can bind to minerals such as calcium, iron, and zinc, making them less available for the body to use. It is important to be aware of the potential negative effects of anti-nutrients and take steps to minimize their impact on the body. This can include preparing foods in a way that reduces the levels of anti-nutrients, such as soaking, sprouting, and fermenting grains and legumes. The nutritional advice often echoed from many traditional trained dietitians is that we shouldn't supplement but get our vitamins, minerals and other nutrients from whole plant food. ### Common nutrients deficiencies in a vegan diet: B12 Vitamin D Omega 3 Iron Calcium Zinc Iodine ### I include the additions of all B vitamins (riboflavin is more important than I ever knew for those with MTHFR gene variation), vitamin A, complete amino acids, and minerals like selenium and copper. All of these nutrients are found in animal products, especially when practicing a nose-to-tail approach which is eating all parts, including organs. I have other solutions for everyone who just said “ewwwww.” Wild caught salmon, mackerel, anchovies, sardines, and muscles are powerhouses of vital nutrients. Let me be clear, I’m not criticizing your approach to nutrition. The system is broken. Our health system is broken. Our health education is broken. Our food system is broken, and for those reasons we are a society that is overweight, undernourished and stressed out. The exact opposite of “prosperity.” I do want to point out one last aspect; plants are medicine. There is no debate that plants contain chemicals that inhibit cancer, reduce inflammation, manage insulin/blood sugar, and even have mood-boosting properties. I am not anti plant but my eyes have been opened to the idea that meat is bad and that a plant-based diet is healthy is missing the mark significantly. The Carnivore Diet has been a marvelously simple way of detoxing and focusing on nutrients. I’m a fan of cycles, like seasons are the best approach. #08: Sourcing From Regenerative Farms: Adam Hiner

I recently had the opportunity to interview Adam Hiner, the owner of Pacha, a company that specializes in making buckwheat bread using regenerative agriculture practices. At Pacha, they believe in using a rotational crop system to protect the health of the soil and create more sustainable farming practices. As a cover crop, it can improve soil health and fertility, suppress weeds, provide habitat for pollinators, control erosion, cycle nutrients, and sequester carbon in the soil. This approach is key to their mission of creating a better product than what is currently available on the market.  Their sprouted buckwheat flour bread is packed with nutrients and flavor, while many other gluten-free options are loaded with binders, gums, and fillers. Pacha's bread is also organic, non-GMO, and free of the top eight allergens, including grains, gluten, dairy, eggs, nuts, soy, wheat, and peanuts. It is sprouted, fermented, and easy to digest. Adam believes there is a great need to bring chefs and farmers together to create a more sustainable food system. However, they face challenges with time constraints and a lack of distribution. This is an opportunity we at Me & McGee Market are trying to solve.  They also avoid seed oils in their products and believe that animals are necessary for healthy farms.  Pacha is committed to using regenerative agriculture practices and creating a sustainable food system. They believe that consumers have the power to drive demand for more sustainable food products by choosing to buy from companies that prioritize regenerative agriculture and sustainable farming practices. All of Pacha's bread is baked fresh at their bakery in sunny San Diego, California. https://livepacha.com/products/buckwheat-sourdough-loaf Get Involved and Support Sowing Prosperity: To learn more about our mission and support in disseminating knowledge on sowing prosperity, please visit Sowing Prosperity. https://www.sowingprosperity.com/contact  YouTube Channel  https://www.youtube.com/@SowingProsperity  Sponsor Acknowledgment: This episode of Sowing Prosperity is brought to you by Me & McGee Market. #06: Sowing Prosperity Philosophy

Sowing Prosperity Philosophy Being the light means turning your light on so that you can be the light, not be their light. Only they can be their light. As you connect with your own light source, you then effortlessly light up the way for others to connect with theirs. "The Sowing Prosperity Philosophy is to empower and support establishing a strong and thriving community, founded on principles of sustainability and abundance through regenerative practices." In 100 years, by applying the Sowing Prosperity Philosophy, our goal is to have a community of healthy, happy, resilient individuals thriving in life. Prosperous self: -Health -Family -Friends -Finances   1. A strong foundation starts with self. Embracing good health as the first wealth enables individuals to reach their fullest potential and better serve their families and communities. By striving for personal prosperity, we can collectively create a brighter future based on mutual support and shared success. -Energy -Water -Diet -Sleep -Environment -Fulfillment -Legacy   2. Sowing Prosperity recognizes the power of education in shaping a better future. By promoting awareness and understanding of the benefits of sourcing local foods from regenerative farms, we believe that we can simultaneously strengthen the local economy and improve public health. Our focus is on nourishing foods such as raw dairy, grass-fed and finished meats, and pasture-raised eggs, which offer abundant nutrients while minimizing toxic exposure. We embrace farming practices that are in harmony with nature, creating a healthier and more sustainable food system.   3. Our second foundational principle at Sowing Prosperity is the promotion of health-focused and agricultural-centered entrepreneurship (A.C.E.). By nurturing businesses in retail, agriculture, and food industries that operate in a regenerative manner, we aim to enhance community resilience and foster thriving conditions. These enterprises play a crucial role in providing goods and services that strengthen our foundation for a sustainable future.   4. Sowing Prosperity envisions a network of interconnected small businesses, forming a sustainable ecosystem that operates as a closed system. This approach promotes resilience and independence, ensuring that our communities are equipped to thrive in any circumstance. #05: Carnivore Diet from Being a Vegan with Kevin TheVisionary

Meet Kevin Gibbs, a former U.S. Marine and Trinidad native who used to be a vegan but now embraces a carnivore diet. Hear his story and get his advice on how to thrive on this unique way of eating. To learn more about Kevin's diet check out his website: https://www.kevinthevisionary.com/ Looking for grass-fed meat? White Oak Pastures is where we source a lot of the meat for our family. Use discount code LANDER when you order for a discount: whiteoakpastures.com/LANDER ### When Lander was diagnosed with cancer, I dove into nutrition extensively. ### Located just outside of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Me & McGee Market provides an outlet for local farmers and producers. In a relaxing environment, Arkansas products can be found such as meats such as grass-fed beef, buffalo, pork, lamb and poultry. As well as, plants, eggs, honey, fresh produce, spices, jams and jellies! An extension of these farmers and artisans, we cherish the retail responsibility of our partnerships, especially interacting and connecting with customers.
