Velvet Goldmine (1998) - The Glam Rock Soundtrack With Supergroup Covers and Bowie Homage Orignals

Ryan Pak, Brandice Wilson and Nicole Barlow discuss the soundtrack to the 1998 Todd Haynes film, Velvet Goldmine, which pays tribute to glam rock through both original songs and covers. We discuss how the movie is more or less based on David Bowie and Iggy Pop, though Haynes couldn't get Bowie to sign off on the film, therefore nixing any use of his music. We talk about the two super groups on the soundtrack, The Venus in Furs and The Wylde Ratttz, how Shudder to Think's original contributions created a new career path for them, and about the many references to Oscar Wilde in the film. Obviously, since Nicole picked the soundtrack, we also talk about Ewan MacGregor, one of the many stars in this very stacked cast.
