Show Notes
Creator of Dietrich's Car Channel on YouTube , and Ryan Pak's former roommate, Dietrich Seney stops by the podcast to talk about the hit soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. He talks about how the film and his interest in the soundtrack helped him better understand Shakespeare as a freshmen in high school and how many of the songs continue to connect him to scenes in the film. We talk about how Garbage’s “#1 Crush” was almost omitted from the soundtrack and how Radiohead actually asked Baz Luhrmann to omit the song they wrote for the film from the soundtrack. We also discuss the popularity of The Cardigans, Everclear and the Butthole Surfers around the release of the film. Finally, we talk about a night at a Garbage concert that became memorable not for the music but for the venue and a conversation with some Garbage fans seated near us.
