KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • For me, being a Christian is an all-encompassing thing. I live my life as a faith worker, I don’t draw a salary and haven’t done it for 20 years. I live my life based on what I sense my purpose is and my call before God and as I do that I trust that everything that I need will come.
  • Faith for me is tuning into what God is doing, in my and in you, what am I experiencing now? How do I see my past and make sense of it? How do I make sense of these circumstances? How do I make sense of who I am and my own life? It’s about perspective, but you look at everything. The anchor point is Jesus and God and He is good, and so all things work together for good. But, it’s not in a random way, it’s in a trustworthy way.
  • Aa we follow and are obedient to that way of love, we are expressing His nature and we become more like him, and the world will become a better place. Love is the opposite of self-centeredness, when we love the other as Christ loves us, we lay down our lives, it’s a sacrificial, unconditional love.
  • My understanding of my sense of self is that we’re complex, living beings, we are physical, mental, spiritual. But we’re pulled in two directions, towards God and towards the self. One is towards trust and relationship, and one is mistrust and self-preservation and there’s a constant pull between them.

BEST MOMENTS

‘My perspective of faith is seeing things the way God sees them and living accordingly.’
‘God is intelligently and lovingly interacting and waiting and bringing about His purposes and His goodness. That requires us to harmonise with him.’
"God is love and, as a Christian, the greatest commandment is to love God, the next greatest is to love your neighbour, then Jesus added a third one: Love one another as He has loved us.’
‘Often in religious conversations, people can get very idealistic. Christians are called to love and He sorts out everything else, we’re not called to judge, separate, say I’m in and you’re not.’
