Tenure is unique to academia. Teachers are afforded protection once granted tenure so they can research and discuss topics that might otherwise jeopardize job security. However, there is an unintended consequence that needs addressing. That is, when teaching jobs are protected, does it end up keeping out fresh blood with new ideas?
