Of the famous suffragette family Pankhurst — Emmeline, Christabel, Adela — Sylvia became the pioneer communist who organised the East End of London, where many working class men also lacked the vote. The pamphlet recounts the contrasting evolutions of the "votes for ladies" of Christabel and Emmeline, and of Sylvia's working-class organising.
