'Reflection' on Soho Service
For the programme’s first anniversary, we look back at some of the guests we have spoken to over the past year and the music and ideas they have brought to the show. We also reflect on the music of the spring festivals at this time of year.An exploration of the relationship between art, music and religion in London. From gospel-inspired grime to the politics of faith that inspire modern art and theatre today, Soho Service is not defined by medium or genre but tries to encapsulate London and everything that our relationship with religion affects. We challenge the assertion that faith and culture in London is limited to the paintings by the masters in the National Gallery and want to explore how our relationship with faith continues to define and influence our expressive culture in London today. This is the Soho Radio podcast, showcasing some of the best broadcasts from our online radio station, right from the heart Soho London.Across our Music and Culture channels, we have a wide range of shows covering every genre, along with chat shows, discussions and special broadcasts. To catch up on all Soho Radio shows from both our music and culture channels head on over mixcloud.com/sohoradio or tune in live anytime at sohoradiolondon.com.This is a Soho Radio Productions Podcast.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/soho-radio. Bureau of Lost Culture: Nico
She was a singer, songwriter, musician, muse, model, actress and artist. She had roles in several films, including La Dolce Vita and Andy Warhol's Chelsea Girls, fronted The Velvet Underground, made many albums solo and toured for over two decades. She inspired many other artists including Bjork, Iggy Pop and Morrissey. Yet NICO’s life has often been reduced to a series of myths about junkiedom, decay, difficult behaviour and wasted talent.Rock ’n’ Roll historian Jennifer Otter Bickerdike comes to the Bureau to set matters straight and talk about her upcoming book 'You Are Beautiful and You Are Alone: The Biography of Nico’ (Faber). We dig into why female musicians, junkies and artists in the counterculture have been treated differently, even mythologised differently, than their male counterparts; why Iggy Pop is so cool and why Nico still matters. For more on Jennifer Otter Bickerdikejenniferotterbickerdike.comFor more on Bureau of Lost Culturebureauoflostculture.comThis is the Soho Radio podcast, showcasing some of the best broadcasts from our online radio station, right from the heart Soho London.Across our Music and Culture channels, we have a wide range of shows covering every genre, along with chat shows, discussions and special broadcasts. To catch up on all Soho Radio shows from both our music and culture channels head on over mixcloud.com/sohoradio or tune in live anytime at sohoradiolondon.com.This is a Soho Radio Productions Podcast.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/soho-radio. Memories of a Free Festival on Bureau of Lost Culture
"The Sun Machine is Coming Down and We’re Gonna Have a Party" CHRIS TOFU artistic director of Continental Drifts, lies down on the Bureau’s couch for a session of psycho(delic)analysis. We take a rambling trip through the British free festival scene of the 70s, 80s and 90s - with deviations into the lost worlds of Europe’s squatting scene, the new age travelers and guerilla gigs. And we hear about Chris’s crazy countercultural life getting lost at Stonehenge as a wide-eyed 15-year-old from Devon, being 'Bez’ in anarcho-punk-celtic-squattng band Tofu Love Frogs and gigging in a thousand fields along the way.For more on Chris https://www.facebook.com/djchristofuFor more on Continental Driftshttps://continentaldrifts.co.uk/about-us/For more on Bureau of Lost Culturewww.bureauoflostculture.comThis is the Soho Radio podcast, showcasing some of the best broadcasts from our online radio station, right from the heart Soho London.Across our Music and Culture channels, we have a wide range of shows covering every genre, along with chat shows, discussions and special broadcasts. To catch up on all Soho Radio shows from both our music and culture channels head on over mixcloud.com/sohoradio or tune in live anytime at sohoradiolondon.com.This is a Soho Radio Productions Podcast.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/soho-radio.
