Lt. Col. Christine Kelley, call sign “Grinder”, was the first woman to fly the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter in 2015. Prior to the F-35, she flew the F-15E Strike Eagle in combat, accruing more than 2,800 flight hours and 500 combat hours during her 20 years of service in the United States Air Force. She also led the first combat mission planned, briefed, launched, and flown entirely by women in 2011.
