BPD & Substance Abuse Disorder - Emily 'Fraulein'
Borderline Personality Disorder (or BPD) is an emotional regulation disorder characterized by impulsivity, self-harm, instability, and often heavy substance abuse. After a life crisis in 2019, Fraulein was admitted to the psychiatric hospital, where she was diagnosed with this misunderstood and heavily stigmatized disorder. In the years since, she has found healing through specialized therapy, sobriety, and most importantly - self-compassion. In this episode, she dives into the symptomatic overlap between BPD and substance abuse disorder, describes the comorbidity between the two, and takes us through a practical exercise used in DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy)- a powerful tool to help us conquer impulsivity and take a stand against bad choices.
