Today we talk to Kenneth Roth is the Executive Director of Human Rights Watch since 1993. We will be talking about increasing opportunities for authoritarianism amidst the Covid-19 crisis. Focusing particularly on the recent developments in Hungary, as the country pivots towards an autocratic government, which curtails freedom of speech, destroys the system of checks and balances, and promotes xenophobia. We also address the effectiveness of the EU response as well through the specific role of the EUP in launching an Article 7 process and the subsequent response of the EU commission and the Member States.
