In this special holiday edition of the Six Figure Trucker, we want to wish all of our drivers a Merry Christmas and highlight one that truly embodied the reason for the season this year. We’re honored to briefly recount how one of our selfless drivers risked his life to pull two young women out of a burning vehicle and save their lives. For his heroic efforts, Rodney Clay was named a Truckload Carriers Association’s Highway Angel. This is another example of the many drivers we seek to elevate and celebrate because, quite frankly, they deserve it. We’re honored to bring their stories to light. So, to every truck driver tuning in, thank you. Growing up in Jamaica, our guest today was well acquainted with the elite global status of his homeland in track sports. Personally, though, Leopold Ruddock was far from elite. He remembers coming in last in most events through his first couple of years in high school. But, everything changed when Leopold began to train. Before he was a fixture in a Big Rig, our guest today spent most of his days in the Big Apple. As a kid growing up playing basketball on the streets of Long Island, 6 foot 8 inch Peter Rizzo was often called a “Skyscraper.” He went on to play hoops in college before returning to the City to work as a police officer among the land of skyscrapers. But, within his first few months on the job, two of them came down. When the unthinkable occurred, Peter Rizzo joined his comrades and jumped straight into the fire to do what he could to rescue lives and restore a city. The famous “Kick-Six” will forever be remembered as one of the greatest game-ending moments in college football history. And today’s Six Figure Trucker will forever be linked to it. That’s right! Long before joining forces with Norton in Driveaway, Avery Young was an Auburn Tiger. He was a highly touted freshman offensive guard in 2013 when the annual Iron Bowl brought him face-to-face in the trenches against the vaunted Crimson Tide. After 59 minutes and 59 seconds, the game was still gridlocked at 28-all. What happened in that final second brought bedlam to Jordan-Hare Stadium and still brings an occasional royalties check to the aforementioned freshman. You see, a cameraman captured and fixated Avery’s reaction amidst a highlight that’s now been seen millions of times. This was just the beginning of Avery Young’s football career, which wound up including 9 years in the pros.
