The return of The Misfit's "classic lineup", and if he feels the "Resurrection" lineup of the band (which he was involved in during the 90s) could make a return. Ep 198Podcast Episode 198 - Phil Rind Of Sacred Reich

E

I welcome Phil Rind bassist and lead singer of Sacred Reich to the show. This is an episode that took years in the making, and I am glad to have him finally on Mars Attacks Podcast.I have been a fan of Sacred Reich's for a very long time. My cousin had picked up one of these K-Tel cassettes and it had the song "Surf Nicaragua" on it. The first time I heard the wipeoutesque breakdown I was hooked!Fast-forward to 1993 and I was at college radio. Independent was about to drop, and I was lucky enough to talk to drummer Dave McClain. It was my second ever interview and a great experience for me. I have always championed the band, and Independent. I still think it is one of the best albums to be released during the 90s.Be forewarned that this interview with Phil is by far my most political interview to date. But we also talk a ton about Sacred Reich and their music.Among the things I talk to Phil about is the band's latest album Awakening. Why it took so long for the band to follow up 1996's Heal. We discuss lineup changes in the band. What it was like to work with Dave Jerden on Independent. I also ask about touring with Pantera, Crowbar, and Souls At Zero. All this, and much, much more!

Ep 183Podcast Episode 183 - Joey Vera Of Armored Saint

E

JOEY VERA OF ARMORED SAINT JOINS THE SHOWArmored Saint bassist Joey Vera has been on the show before. He's been on to do a story tellers episode based on his time in Armored Saint, and lent his comments to the Classic Albums episode on Anthrax's Sound Of White Noise. Some may not remember, but he actually stepping in when Frank Bello left to go play with Helmet.RELATED: ARMORED SAINT STORY TELLERS WITH JOHN BUSH AND JOEY VERAJoey's interview is completely different to the one I recently released with John Bush. Although they were recorded a day apart back in September, I made sure to make them as different as possible. Very few questions overlap, because I didn't want to make this a paint by numbers conversation. And wanted to ensure that it would be a worth wild listen.Obviously we discuss Armored Saint's new album Punching The Sky which comes out tomorrow October 23rd. But, we also discuss many other topics during this hour plus episode. Bonus material from this episode will be available on Patreon shortly.Among the items touched upon include asking him about how playing in Fates Warning and Motorsister help make him better in Armored Saint. What he may or may not have been listening to to help shape what ended up on the album. Why he wanted to work with the same team that was behind him on Win Hands Down, and a bunch more.I did ask him about the passing of Martin Birch, the legendary producer that worked with Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and Rainbow for so many years. Bands that obviously influenced Armored Saint. But I wanted to take this a step further to ask about Martin's possible influence on Joey as a producer.I also asked about the passing of Frankie Banali, since Quiet Riot's album Metal Health helped kick open the door for a lot of L.A. based bands to get signed. Some people may ask, why didn't you ask him about Eddie Van Halen? Like I mentioned above, the conversation was recorded in September. Eddie was . It would of only made sense for me to ask about both him and Frankie given that all three bands are from the same general area. The band's live stream went down on October 10th, but you can still watch it up until November 9th.

E

This is the first Signals From Mars livestream that I have done for Signals From Mars since 2018. During the episode I discuss the recent passing of the great Eddie Van Halen, and a huge proponent for this and many other podcasts, Adam Cox. The idea is to livestream every Friday night simultaneously on Facebook, YouTube, Twitch, and Periscope. I'll touch on current events, new releases, and some historic album releases. You can join us live for the chat as well. The bug for livestreaming came from doing the Podcast Kings Tournament on Earpeeler. I did a nightly recap of what was going down, and got great feedback at the time. I'd love to achieve that sort of experience again. There are plans to add an Earpeeler component to these livestreams as well. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for that! All of the Signals From Mars episodes will be featured here on the site for you to check out at any time. You'll be able to watch replays of the livestream, or listen to the audio version of the show in podcast format.Feel free to follow the show live on the platform of your choosing. Ep 181Podcast Episode 181 - John Bush Of Armored Saint

E

Armored Saint lead singer John Bush is no stranger to the show. He's been on to do discuss the release of albums like La Raza, and Carpe Diem. He's also done story tellers episodes based on his time in both Armored Saint, and his era of Anthrax. As well as lent his comments to our Classic Albums episode on Anthrax's Sound Of White Noise. John joins us to discuss Armored Saint's upcoming release Punching The Sky. We discuss various tracks off of the album. The band not trying to revisit any of the previous hits. How he feels that the band's guitarists have always been underrated. Why release the album now, and not wait for the pandemic to clear up? The band's live stream on October 10th.Of course we discuss Anthrax as well. Last time we spoke he brought up the possibility of going out and doing shows focusing on his era of the band. I ask him why that never came to fruition. I also ask him about possibly doing shows with the band to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Sound Of White Noise. He goes on to discuss how reconnecting with members of the band these past few years is a lot more important than thinking about anything else related to Anthrax.

He has played on everything the band has released since then, 2016's Black EP, 2017's The Crowing Of The Fire King, and the soon to be released Lamenting Of The Innocent. During the interview we discuss the new album. Why being known as more than just a doom metal band is important to them. If it was difficult for them self produce the album, and be objective with their own material. How the current pandemic is affecting the band's plans for 2020. And more! The band formed back in 1988 in Stockholm Sweden. Although they released a pair of demos, and where featured on two compilations over the years, they didn't release a full length album until 2015's In The Shadow Of the Inverted Cross. The band was around from 1988 to 1992. They got back together again in 2010, and have been around since.

Ep 178Podcast Episode 178 - Lucas Kanopa Of Void Vator

Lucas Kanopa is a Uruguayan guitarist and lead singer. He came on my radar a few years ago after being mentioned to me by Patrick Kennison of the band Heaven Below. He mentioned at the time that he had just left Gypsyhawk, and was playing in several L.A. bands. One of them was Void Vator along Lucas. During the interview Lucas talks about meeting both Patrick and Erik. The differences between each band, and how his writing figures in to both. Ep 170Podcast Episode 170 - The Non-Makeup Years

E

I haven't done a Kiss-centric episode in a long time. They're the band that got me into music, and after seeing a list that was recently published that pertained to the "greatest" non-makeup tracks by the band, it inspired me to put my own list together. There is no exact order here, just tracks that I think are cool, and there is really no other reason than that. It flip flops between songs that Gene and Paul have sung, as they did the majority of vocals during this time period. That isn't to take away from Eric Carr or Bruce Kulick who each sung a track, but Mr. Stanley and Mr. Simmons have performed the majority of the lead vocals. I also give my behind the scenes opinion on something that is on the mind of a bunch of Kiss fans, I can't say everyone, because there are a lot that honestly don't care. If you're a die-hard fan of the band's, nothing here is new, it's just an excuse to play some cool tunes that as everything else I do vears away from the same old same old (for the most part).
