072 The Podcast Contest You Didn't Know You Entered

E

Holy Cats! New Webinar! Creativity in Podcasting!!! Sign up Wanna Sponsor the show? Check out our Media Kit! Communicate with us via Twitter by using the hashtag #AskSheP and of course follow us on Twitter Show 072 Quick-Guide Let’s start out with some shout-outs!!! Hello Harry! Hello The Real Brian! Y’all need to sign up for our upcoming webinar that is all about Creativity in Podcasting!!! Google Play Music is now open to podcasts! You can submit your podcast into Google Play Music! We got some killer feedback about women getting married and working! Woah. Thanks Kris Interesting piece of feedback about trolls coming down on the new Lena Dunham podcast that hasn’t even launched! Trolls, trolls, trolls. Boo A baby bursts through Jess’s door with his car! We start the conversation into a Facebook post about podcasting tactics that was almost 5 thousand words. Goodness gracious “You are incorrect, muppet friend. You are adorable for life.” says Jess to Elsie Why we decided to dive into this insane post about podcasting hacks and getting THOUSANDS of downloads in the first few weeks of launching Why the worldview of POV of the advice you get is imporant before you accept advice on your podcast, or anything for that matter This post is for those that have invested significantly in business systems of time and/or money. This post will not have the same impact for those that are starting with limited resources either of time, money or influence The tips also assume that you are batch producing content Not overwhelming your audience when you launch with hours upon hours of content makes sense, no? Tactics are great, but they are not guaranteed, most of the time you are not able to measure what actually worked If you don’t have an interview show, you cannot apply any of the tactics that Nathan shares “Soft-sell them HOW. Soft-sell them WHAT? That’s not a tip!” via Jess Don’t use the day’s trending hashtag on Instagram! Be mindful about how you use hashtags OMG Jess makes a BOO BOO with Leadpages, she orders something she doesn’t want! We need to stop Jess from randomly ordering things while we’re recording Stop spamming the author field in iTunes or you will not be featured in ANY lists in iTunes. They will remove you Feedback request! What do you guys think about our comments on Nathan? Were we too harsh? Do you disagree with us? Links mentioned by Jess and Elsie! Advertising, sponsors and media kits people! That’s our next webinar!!! Elsie was doing some testing people - and Jessica wonders - hmmmm. Give us some feedback on the quality of our audio! We’re doing something awesome :) Skype alternatives begin! Zoom There is a free account It provides a recording - nice quality You can take the video off and only use audio They have a smartphone app You download the client software Fuze It supports and amazing amount of people in a room with video! There is a free account BUT does not provide a recording through Fuze You can choose to do the conversation audio only You need to record on your own, but a great way to connect with your people They have a smartphone app You download the client software Go To Meeting It is paid, no free account You get the recording You can just do audio if you want They have a smartphone app You download the client software Uberconference There is a free account Surprising good quality from Uberconference If both people are using a microphone, it sounds awesome, if your guest is on the telephone the levels are drastically off It is browser based - no downloaded Blab/Podclear The conversation will not be private - it is a public conversation There is no way to do audio only They provide the recording for you, which is decent It’s free! Google Hangouts You can do a private hangout You do have the option of doing audio (I was wrong) Other free conferencing services not the best - use Uberconference Double-enders Work best when you are dealing with another podcaster or someone that has a microphone and knows how to record themselves. Ringr Both guests NEED to have the app downloaded Both people need to be on the phone Post uploading to the Ringr service might be an issue RECAP NOT software - this is a hardware solution There might be a learning curve and workflow to make this work Blue Microphones and their controversial giant poster with woman + fallic Yeti Responses from the community about the Blue Microphones marketing at TwitchCon Where does the marketing responsibility lie? 033 The One About How To Sell Your Podcast

Talk to us about SALES! Send in your feedback to [email protected] or join our FB Group! Show 033 Quick-Guide The importance of self promotion - you have to learn to love it and NOT force it. The podcasting industry has an education problem: people don’t know podcasts + an old model for advertising What is a perfect partner? And what defines my perfect partner. What kinds of questions do you need to ask YOURSELF before you choose a sponsor or a sponsor approaches you. When you should NOT have a sponsor for your podcast. Smart companies are going to be looking for a return on their investment (ROI) and how you should prepare yourself. There is a responsibility of both parties (sponsor + podcasters) for a win-win. How does a podcast that is NOT a business but would like to make a little money shift their mindset about “pimping our their audience,” to being OK about selling their podcast. Most of us were not raised to sell and hustle. Elegant hustling FTW! What kind of experience do you have when YOU go shopping? What do you love and what do you hate? And how that informs how you partner with sponsors. There are so many distractions online that you must be able to help your audience focus on what they want to focus on. Treat everybody as if they are brand new. When you are in sales you will come up with people’s objections - knowing your people’s objections is gold. Erika reveals the exact email to send a potential advertisers - word for word. Elegant hustling is about an invitation and connection. “You don’t learn anything from YES” - says Erika Lyremark Who you need to contact to start the sales conversation + how to practice selling. What if nobody buys? How do you refuel and keep going? What hustling energy can get you - if you just follow through! How breakthroughs always come when you are not attached to outcomes. Some ideas are thrown about for Benjamin Franklin. Erika gives Elsie a challenge. OMG. We get a last massive bit of wisdom about sales and marketing that we all need to hear, starting with the fact that they are different kinds of conversations. FEEDBACK REQUEST! How do you love to shop? Where do you love to shop? Why do YOU buy what you buy? AND How does YOUR experience buying/shopping translate to the kind of experience/relationship you want to have on your show? Links mentioned by Erika and Elsie! 032 How To Get A Sponsor For Your Podcast And Other Stories

Your feedback is ALWAYS welcome! [email protected]. Come on and join our FB Group OR send us a lovely piece of voice feedback. Show 032 Quick-Guide Jumping right in to the scoop about podcasting sponsorship - you ask, we deliver. What is the definition of a “seasoned podcaster” and why they are not the best to give you advice to help you make money. Why did Elsie choose that definition of a ‘seasoned podcaster’. A bit of history of “the podcaster” and how that plays into the culture of monetization and sponsorship in the medium. Seasoned podcasters have a wealth of experience in building a fanbase, sustaining passion, workflow/hacks and creating great content - NOT how to pitch and sell their podcast. The way it’s been it’s been - as advertising in podcasting stands. We break down numbers - download and cash - of the podcasting advertising “standards.” Time to debunk VOLUME (aka podcast download numbers) as the ONLY way to get sponsorship for your podcast. Why the CPM model is not the best model for podcasting - Elsie preaches a little bit. What you need to have in place before you can start looking for and negotiatiating podcast sponsors. The 3 essential things that you need to get yourself a sponsor for your podcast. What exactly IS crazy valuable content? What is the definition of an engaged audience? ENGAGEMENT + INTIMACY (you being you) = Perfect Partner Results (your perfect partner is your potential sponsor/advertiser) The ultimate golden ticket to getting the perfect sponsor - and it’s NOT what you think. Be part of our end of the year show! Scroll down our shownotes to get details of what you need to do! Show 030 Quick-Guide The mighty Heather Ordover is our last guest co-host for She Podcasts for 2014. Remember when we did the Hollywood thing? Ya, that did happen. Be part of She Podcasts! Take action ASAP send in your feedback. We give you the scoop on what went down with the public hearing by the EFF on 12/17/2014 that presented to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) a key claim to invalidate of a patent used by notorious patent troll Personal Audio to shake down podcasters. We have an idea of what season 2 for Serial should be…hmmmmmm. We do in fact have a conversation about patent law. Ya. Diving deep into a massively popular genre in podcasting Education. Why does a teacher decide to podcast about literature? The incredible culture of “being read to.” When children ask to read Shakespeare and redesigning a curriculum to teach to the joke. A Tale of Two Cities. It’s awesome. The audio brain vs the reading brain. And we do chat about the bias of reading-reading and “reading” and audio book. How Elsie reads now. Cognative Anchoring is revealed! Amazing stuff people. The room to expand your mind in all of the different podcast is there. Why and how what you listen to dictates how you move and grow in the world. It’s time to find a podcast that will help you break patterns. Go do it. And then there is Chop Bard and how it expands your brain. Or at least we geek out about it. A bit of Twelfth Night discussion. What is the distinction between podcasts and procasts? Audio quality may or may not deter new podcast listeners from stepping into more podcasts. There really are podcast seasons, not for your podcast, but for podcasters. Podcast numbers can be many things and only one aspect needs to be a commodity aka selling sponsorship A devoted fanbase does not signify money/sponsorship - if we subscribe to the existing media models. A devoted fanbase does not mean that they WILL buy when you have something to sell. Choose to go where your audience is - agree? Where are the women from She Podcasts Facebook group coming from? Community feedback can be super terrifying. Sometimes feedback can very much teach you exactly what matters to your audience. FEEDBACK REQUEST! Participate in our end of the year episode!!!!
