Today we are continuing our study into Jonah with Jonah 3:1-5. In this chapter, Jonah is called to call out the Ninevites on their sin so that they can repent. Although it was a scary step, Jonah took this step of obedience. In these verses, we learn that God is not intimated by anything - he knows who He is, and no one or nothing is too great for God. Sometimes we get intimated to step out in obedience, but God is never afraid. Jonah is faithful to follow what God has asked of Him, no matter how big or scary it was. As we enter the Christmas season, which can be so sweet, it can also be a hard time for many of us. It can bring hard reminders, heart ache, sweet but tough memories. Today we are going to talk about comfort and joy for those of us who Christmas might be hard for this year. I just want to encourage you with a ton of Bible verses about Jesus, our Savior who is also our Comforter, who weeps with us, who IS with us, Immanuel, who understands us. We’ll talk about comfort and joy but even more notably the God who gives us that comfort and joy. Our God who came down to earth, who’s birth we celebrate, is not far and He knows our hearts, our sorrow, our needs so intimately. And today I want to encourage you with that. Because truly, there are no perfect words. I don’t know what you’re carrying. But I do know the One who does know and the One who is, as we’ll read, the God of all comfort.
