Allison talks with Jo Newell, from the Orlando Regional Chamber, about the Chamber's recent initiative, “All Women Empowered,” focused on pushing women forward in the business world. Jo explains the overwhelming support that the All Women Empowered task force has received is incredibly inspiring. She then describes how accessible reaching for your goals can be in the current business climate. Jo conveys how important it is to understand that everyone’s journey to success is different. She emphasizes that life is not a linear path and each individual experience adds to your story.

JO'S BIO: 

Josann Newell, known by her friends as Jo, is the Interim Vice President at the Orlando Regional Chamber a core component of the Orlando Economic Partnership. She is born in Mandeville, Jamaica, grew up in one of the seven original Blue Zones in Loma Linda, California and has called Central Florida home since 2008. Jo graduated magna cum laude from California Baptist University with a degree in Liberal Studies and a concentration in Human Development. 

After graduation, Jo focused on building a career in business development and sales. She became Vice President of Operations at NLS Worldwide, a retail startup company operating seven boutiques across North America. Jo was a member of the executive team that grew the company’s profits by opening multiple locations. Jo spent 10 years in the corporate world building a track record of success. She then felt called to use the skills from the corporate world to give back to her neighbors and her community. 

In 2017, she was appointed the first Board Chair of From Outside In, a nonprofit organization working to provide free gently used clothing for youth in need. She also joined the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness, a nonprofit organization dedicated to marshalling government entities, businesses, the faith community, and other nonprofits to make homelessness in Central Florida rare, brief, and one time. 

A lifelong learner, Jo obtained her real estate license in 2018 and enjoys engaging and learning about the Orlando region. In her current role as interim Vice President, Jo leads a team focused on helping the Orlando region’s business community connect, innovate and grow. She is also the founder of All Women Empowered, a program comprised of private, public, and nonprofit partners working to unify community resources into a strategically coordinated campaign to propel women forward. 

Jo enjoys watching soccer, decorating, fitness, nutrition and most importantly, spending time with her family and friends. She is married to Joseph Newell and they live happily with their two pups Kaylie and Kai.
