Howell, also known as the "Sick Ripper" and the "New Britain Serial Killer," murdered six women and one man over a 10-month span in 2003. He picked up most of his victims, many of whom struggled with drug addiction, in his blue van, which he called the "murder mobile". He would often rape them and then kill them, disposing of their bodies in a wooded area behind a New Britain strip mall that he referred to as "his garden".
