Gainey, who has been with the Vols since 2022, played and graduated from NC State, and worked in their admin. Barnes hopes Gainey lands the head coaching job at his alma mater, as the position opened up on March 26th. The Vols face Michigan in the Elite Eight today, with Gaineys name still in the running for the NC State job.
