Washington State Embraces Digital: Say Goodbye to Paper Hunting and Fishing Licenses
Starting July 8th, Washington states Department of Fish and Wildlife is phasing out waterproof and tear-resistant paper licenses, encouraging a shift towards mobile options. The MyWDFW and Fish Washington apps now handle digital licenses, with paper licenses still available at dealers, offices, or via home printers.
Anglers will see significant changes, particularly with the introduction of electronic catch record cards on April 1st. These cards allow for offline logging of salmon, steelhead, sturgeon, and halibut catches, syncing data later. Puget Sound Dungeness crab reporting will also go digital next summer.
To transition to mobile licenses for the 2026-2027 season, users can log into their WILD account online, select the mobile option, and download the app. This move aims to reduce waste and enhance convenience for outdoor enthusiasts.
