Show Notes
Three mysterious orcas, a female and two males, have captivated whale watchers from Vancouver to Olympia. These Bigg’s killer whales, with unique circular scars from cookie-cutter shark bites, are unlike any seen in decades. Theyve been spotted in Canadas Vancouver Harbour and the Salish Sea, then headed south through Seattle and Tacoma. Marine biologist Emma Luck recognized them from a sighting near Anchorage almost a year ago. Their wide-ranging roam suggests they might be from the Gulf of Alaska or Aleutian Islands. Their city-hopping tour has researchers puzzled, as theyre not typically seen in such populated spots.
