The energy market is alight with rumors about a gigantic merger between Shell (SHEL) and BP (BP). Shell has denied that talks are happening. Rob Thummel covers the buzz and says that both companies are trading at “steep discounts” to historical levels right now. He discusses what would happen within the energy market should a deal go through but says “it would take a while” to get past regulators. He thinks Shell could buy part of BP instead of trying to take over the entire company.
