Stephen Kates breaks down the latest CPI numbers, calling it an affirmation that delayed reports were correct. “We’re seeing cooling” in house prices, he says, but “we don’t want deflation there.” Whether the numbers are optimistic or pessimistic depends on your point of view and economic situation, he says. He’s on the optimistic side, anticipating hiring to speed up, but says there could be a “bumpy road.”
