Broadcom (AVGO) was initially lower after its earnings, until it announced a $10 billion chip order deal with OpenAI. As Alex Coffey explains, the custom chip developer will create semiconductors for the ChatGPT parent. Nvidia (NVDA) moved lower on the announcement. Alex makes the case that is shows, "what is good for one company may no longer be good for the other." He also turns to Tesla (TSLA) and its bombastic $1 trillion pay package it has planned for CEO Elon Musk. Kevin Hincks dives into the August non-farm payrolls report which came in below estimates and revealed only 22k added jobs last month. Kevin says this now turns the focus to interest rates after it continues a trend of weak employment data this week including JOLTS and Jobless Claims. He adds the revisions to June and July painted slightly different pictures, but says what's weak for the U.S. economy isn't necessarily bad for the stock market. RSM's Joe Brusuelas sits with Diane King Hall at the NYSE to react live to the August jobs data. He believes that digging down into the data that "bad news on Main Street is good news on Wall Street" as investors anticipate a rate cut from the Federal Reserve. He says his model doesn't show a cut, but he believes the Fed will deliver a cut in the September meeting. "People are having a hard time finding jobs if they're laid off," he adds. He discusses the health of the labor force and stresses the revisions will be a focal point in the months ahead. Boeing (BA) shares have "seen a strong uptrend" says Rachel Dashiell. She points to the technical upside move in the aerospace giant, but notes the recent trading range forming a tighter pattern between $220 and $240. Rachel zooms out on the 5-year timeframe to show the rebound from 2022-lows.
