Ronald Poetiray heeft zijn hele leven bij het Korps Mariniers gewerkt, zowel bij de special forces als de conventionele eenheden. Van compagniecommandant infanterie tot aan commandant Bijzondere Bijstandseenheid (BBE) tot de oprichting van NLMARSOF, hij maakte het allemaal mee.
