Larry Yatch, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and a ten-year veteran serving as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy SEALs, has led and served in extreme environments around the globe. He is a father to two young boys, speaker, coach, and a successful business owner. As an entrepreneur in leadership development, team performance and tactical planning, he applies lessons from these experiences to transform decision-making, reinvigorate company cultures, and improve team performance. His book released this year 'How Leadership (Actually) Works: A Navy SEAL's Complete System for Coordinating Teams' brings together his experiences and knowledge that he has gained across the Navy SEALs and the world of business.
Larry planned and led his SEAL platoons in the assault on the world's largest oil platform in the largest Special Operations mission in U.S. history during the opening night of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He developed a radical new system for attacking armored, enemy controlled ships during operations in the Northern Arabian Gulf. He also planned, built, and directed the creation of a new 300-person SEAL command designed for sensitive missions critical to the Navy's efforts in the War on Terror. Multiple injuries led Larry to medically retire from the SEALs in 2008.
In today's conversation we will explore:
- How to execute with extreme levels of accountability and responsibility and most importantly how to ensure that things get done without you
- The four pillars of responsibility
- The importance of coordinating action effectively with others
- The six pillars of performance
- The 10 principles of the ScaleX™ Framework
- How to inspire your team through the Waterfall of Obligation
- How to become a high performing business leader with self-regulation
Quote
"If you're surrounded by people that don't hold responsibility, you're the cause of that. You are the one that is enabling these individuals. If I'm handing responsibility to you, it's on me to make sure that you have the power in the form of knowledge, skills, responsibility, authority, and resources to meet the standard of performance that you understand and hold in order to fulfil the purpose and avoid the consequence. The fourth piece is getting a commitment."
