In a proud moment for Indian cinema, Boong, a Manipuri-language film, has won the British Academy Film and Television Award (BAFTA) for Best Children’s & Family Film. The film was directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, who has now become one of the first filmmakers from India’s Northeast to win a BAFTA award. It was backed by film producers Farhan Akhtar, Vikesh Bhutani, Alan McAlex, Ritesh Sidhwani and Shujaat Saudagar. We spoke to members of the Manipuri community in Australia to hear their reactions to this historic achievement.
